Atlanta, Georgia (August 28, 2002) - SunLink Health Systems, Inc. (AMEX:SSY) announced today that its 2002 Annual Meeting of Shareholders has been scheduled for Friday, November 22, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., Eastern Standard Time, in Atlanta, Georgia, for the purpose of voting upon the re-election of four directors for a two-year term.
Shareholders of record on October 8, 2002 will be eligible to vote either by mail or electronically prior to the meeting or in person at the meeting. The Corporation's proxy materials containing information about the matters to be voted on will be mailed to shareholders on or about October 15, 2002. All shareholders are encouraged and invited to attend SunLink's Annual Meeting.
Separately, SunLink announced that it has appointed Joseph T. "Pete" Morris as chief financial officer and Harry R. Alvis as chief operating officer of the Corporation. Mr. Morris and Mr. Alvis are currently executives of the Corporation's hospital operating subsidiary, SunLink Healthcare Corp. Both assisted the Corporation with its acquisition of six hospitals in 2000 and 2001 and joined SunLink Healthcare in February 2001. Mr. Morris and Mr. Alvis will continue to serve in their respective capacities as president and senior vice president of SunLink Healthcare Corp. in addition to their newly assigned responsibilities.
Robert M. Thornton, Jr., chairman and chief executive officer of the Corporation, commented, "These are well-deserved promotions.
